Indledning til novelleanalyse

Når man skal lave en analyse af en novelle eller romanuddrag i et engelsk essay, så er det en god idé at have følgende ting med:

• Præsentation af titel og foratter. For eksempel:
• This is an analysis of the short story 'Say Yes' by Tobias Wolf.
• This is an analysis of the excerpt of the novel 'The Beach' by Alex Garland.
• En kort præsentation af, hvad novellen eller romanuddraget handler om, samt eventuelt hvordan den ender.
• The short story is about a married couple who are fighting in the kitchen. On the surface they fight about race and racial issues in the United States. But perhaps they are fighting about something else, perhaps things are not going well in their marriage.
• En kort præsentation af de ting, som vil blive gennemgået eller analyseret i essayets hoveddel.
• This essay will first make a characterisation of the husband and wife, next a characterisation of their relationship will be made. Then the themes will be analysed and finally the message will be discussed.

Læg mærke til brugen af konnektorerne first, next, then og finally.

En indledning skal være ca. 8-12 linjer - ligesom en gennemsnitligt afsnit i opgaven, men det kan dog variere afhængig af novellen og opgaveformuleringen.

Indledningen skal være ét sammenhængende afsnit. Dvs. man må ikke lave linjeskift i en indledning.
