Uformelt sprog i essays

Nogle situationer kræver, at man anvender uformelt sprog - andre, at man anvender formelt sprog.

I'm
he doesn't
they aren't

Brug i stedet:

I am
he does not
they are not

Dertil kommer at nogle ord og ordkombinationer ganske enkelt er uformelle:

A lot of Americans are way too convervative.

En mere formel version af denne sætning er:

Many Americans are much too conservative.

Andre eksempler
They work for less money cause they are in the US illegally.
They work for less money because they are in the US illegally.

The new law in Arizona makes it okay to arrest immigrants.
The new law in Arizona makes it acceptable to arrest immigrants.

The whopping number of immigrants is both an advantage and a disadvantage.
The enormous number of immigrants is both an advantage and a disadvantage.

If you are a well educated American, you are simply screwed.
If you are a well educated American, you are simply not in a very good position.

The British government will save £2.5bn, which is lots of money.
The British government will save £2.5bn, which is an enormous amount of money.

Well, it is the reality for one part of India.

I nogle tilfælde kan man enten bruge en form af "to be" eller "to get". I disse tilfælde er "to be" mere formelt:

They fear getting sent back.
They fear being sent back.
